Chinese Evangelical Church of San Diego (CEC) is among the oldest chinese churches in San Diego. It began when a group of over thirty people prayed to start a San Diego chinese church plant. Rev. Benjamin Chow volunteered to help lead and direct CEC. The first worship service was held on July 2, 1978, in the living room of Brother Ron Linn's house in La Jolla. In November 1978, with the approval of College Avenue Baptist Church, CEC began to use their facilities for worship service. On November 26, 1978, Rev. Benjamin Chow was called to be the first Senior Pastor of CEC. In October 1982, CEC purchased the current facility in Linda Vista and has been meeting at this location ever since. Since then, God has blessed us with the addition of Timothy Hall and Grace Cottage. Rev. Benjamin Chow laid a firm Biblical foundation for the continual growth of CEC. However, due to the advancement of his age, Rev. Chow retired as the Senior Pastor of the Chinese Evangelical Church of San Diego on November 1, 1987. Rev. Leon Chow succeeded him as Senior Pastor. In August 2001, Rev. John Moy was called to serve as the Senior Pastor of CEC, who resigned in August 2004, due to health issues. Rev. Steven Siu now serves as the Senior Pastor. The purpose of every ministry at Chinese Evangelical Church of San Diego is to honor and glorify God in all we do. We realize that apart from God we can do nothing. We trust that God will continue to build up CEC as a chinese church in San Diego under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. "Unless the Lord builds the house, its builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchmen stand guard in vain." - Psalm 127:1 |
